Anti-Defamation League Meets With UAOC
Saturday, 31 March 2007
On Friday, 30 March 2007, Abraham H. Foxman, National Director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and Eric Greenberg, Associate Director of Interfaith Affairs for ADL, met with officials of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC), Ukraine's third largest Orthodox Church, at ADL's New York City headquarters to discuss furthering justice as sisters and brothers of the same family equally loved by the same God.
"It was a privilege to meet Mr. Foxman and Mr. Greenberg," said Bishop Paul Peter Jesep of the UAOC. "These men along with colleagues at ADL tirelessly remind us through their work that we are part of the same family. It must never be forgotten that injustice against some of God's children is an injustice against all of God's children. The Creator's children must act and speak with one strong voice against social injustice."
Bishop Paul Peter said, "Abraham Foxman is a warm, special and remarkable man who no doubt makes the Governor of the Universe smile for the good he does for all.
Mr. Foxman's life, strength, and determination is a remarkable inspiration. He must be kept in our prayers now and always."
Since its inception in 1913 to fight anti-Semitism, ADL (www.ADL.org) has worked to "secure justice and fair treatment to all citizens alike and to put an end forever to unjust and unfair discrimination against and ridicule of any sect or body of citizens." Its mission includes stopping discrimination against Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, immigrants, and gay men and lesbian women. ADL now has a worldwide presence to challenge those who seek "physical injury" and "emotional pain" to all of God's children for being made the way the Maker of All Good intended.
"Every Christian," said Bishop Paul Peter, "should enthusiastically applaud ADL in its mission to confront and stop those who spread hate against any member of the family. ADL works for humanity and it must be supported both in America and abroad. As a UAOC Bishop I am fully committed to working with ADL. I am humbled and privileged to stand shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Foxman, a great man and his extraordinary colleagues, to make a contribution to furthering God's intended joy, peace, fellowship, and community for everyone."
